49 employees at the John Deere Waterloo Works have lost their job, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 547 Waterloo John Deere employees have now been laid off this year alone. The Iowa Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification website has described the jobs as “manufacturing”. The company said in an email that they are trying to eliminate overlap and redundancy and that their economic reality and that of their customers has changed. Layoffs were also announced at facilities in Urbandale and Ankeny. Deere & Company also announced that they will be moving some production from its Dubuque location to Mexico by 2026.
