A woman picking up cans in Raymond on Sunday found a mortar round, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. The Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office shut down the area of Lafayette and Dubuque Roads until military ordinance disposal team could arrive on scene. It was not close enough to houses to necessitate an evacuation. A squad from Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri arrived Sunday night and safely detonated the round at a nearby training facility. It is unclear how long the mortar round had been in the ditch or how it got there.
