Move Over Law

Iowa’s move over law goes into effect on July 1. Drivers who fail to move over for emergency, utility, or passenger vehicles stopped on the side of the highway will be fined more than $100. Last year, utility vehicles, like tow trucks, were added to Iowa’s 2002 law that requires drivers to change lanes when approaching emergency vehicles stopped on the highway.  This year, lawmakers expanded Iowa’s Move Over Law to included passenger vehicles with flashing hazards.
