New Law Likely Delays Waverly’s Traffic Cameras

A new law in Iowa will make cities get approval from the Iowa Department of Transportation before adding any and each traffic camera. The new law also states that tickets cannot be issued via camera unless the vehicle is going at least 10 mph above the speed limit, it sets $75 as the minimum fine and prevents the money from entering a city’s general fund but instead mandates monies must be used to fund public safety and roads.

Waverly Mayor Mark Anderson says the new law will likely delay Waverly’s installation of the cameras the City Council has approved.

The mayor also claimed that public safety was the chief reason the cameras were approved in Waverly and not the recent general fund budget deficit.
