Waterloo is introducing a new parking rate structure, citation fees, and kiosks aimed at enhancing accessibility, supporting local businesses, and improving the overall parking experience. Beginning May 1st, the first hour of parking will be free, both on the street and in city parking ramps. Those parking for 1-4 hours will be charged $1 per hour, those parking for more than fours hours will be charged $2 per hour, and there will be a $6 maximum for those parking all day in the ramps. Citations are also changing. Each license plate will receive one warning per fiscal year. The first violation will be $15 if paid within 30 days, $20 after that. Vehicles that remain in violation for more than four hours in a single day will be fined $30 if paid within 30 days and $35 after that. During the initial weeks Park Waterloo will focus on providing support and guidance rather than citations. The old parking meters will be removed and replaced by kiosks. The old parking rates will remain the same until the new system takes effect on May 1st.
