The first baby of 2020 in the Cedar Valley was born at 3:11 New Year’s Day morning at UnityPoint Health Allen Hospital, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. The new baby, named Emmy Lou Thompson, was born to parents Kelley McNamara and Mitchell Thompson of New Hartford. Emmy Lou arrived about a month earlier than expected. An ultrasound at the 36 week checkup found low amounts of fluid in the womb leading to a C section birth just hours into the new year. Emmy Lou weighed 4 pounds 13 ounces at birth and was 18 inches long. She is expected to be able to go home in about a week.
