An investigation by researchers at the University of Iowa has found no evidence of a cancer cluster in Hudson, according to KCRG. The Iowa Cancer Registry first did an investigation in 2022 focused on the school after 12 teachers were diagnosed with breast cancer within a decade. That investigation found no evidence of a breast cancer cluster among the school staff. Not all of those teachers lived in Hudson, however, so a second investigation focused on the town of Hudson. The results showed a small level of breast cancer cases in the town but because the data pool was small and not all breast cancers are the same they concluded there was not a high level of concern. The state of Iowa has seen a rise in cancer cases as a whole in recent years.
