The jury has recessed for the holiday weekend without a verdict in the obscenity trial of 56-year-old Fayla Cannon in Buchanan County. Cannon is charged with dissemination and exhibition of obscene materials to a minor and multiple counts of malicious prosecution. The defense claims that while Cannon was working with a 16-year-old boy with profound impairment the boy drew numerous pictures and writings implying he was abused by his parents and a former educator. The prosecutors claim Cannon coerced the boy into manufacturing false claims. The jury deliberated for 5 hours yesterday and were unable to come to a verdict, if found guilty, Cannon could face up to a year in jail. The jury will resume deliberation on Tuesday morning.
