A Cedar Rapids nurse has been charged after allegedly stealing drugs from a Black Hawk County Hospital, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Luis Ramirez Cajas obtained a position at the hospital in August of 2022 through the Iowa Nurse Assistance Program, which allows nurses to retain their license while receiving treatment for substance use or mental or physical ailments. He allegedly did not comply with the terms of the agreement, which require abstaining from drugs and alcohol and restricts work with narcotics. Ramirez’ contract was cancelled after just two months over concerns of his handling of narcotics. He allegedly admitted to taking narcotics for personal use. He has been charged with Acquiring Fentanyl by Fraud. He has relinquished his nursing license.
