Nurse Has License Suspended

A Waterloo nurse who pleaded guilty to breaking into a patient’s home and stealing Oxycodone pills has had her nursing license suspended, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Lisa Freeland worked for an agency that provided in-home services for adults with disabilities and seniors in December of 2024 when she filled in for another nurse. After an initial visit with a patient at a mobile home on Ellington Street, she returned to the home while the patient was asleep, stole 30 Oxycodone pills, but tripped over a chair, waking the patient. Security cameras caught the theft. Freeland pleaded guilty to second degree Burglary in July, but was given a deferred judgment, meaning it will be wiped from her criminal history if she completes three years of probation. The Iowa Board of Nursing has now suspended her LPN license for up to one year for Misappropriating Medications. Freeland did not admit wrongdoing but accepted the discplinary action.
