A nurse at the Waverly Health Center who stole morphine and Tramadol from patients will keep her nursing license, according to the Iowa Capitol Dispatch. Kathleen Kemming was found in 2025 to have obtained morphine intended for three residents of a home but kept it for herself. She also kept Tramadol intended for the residents. She concealed the thefts by falsifying entries in patient records. The Board of Nursing charged her with misappropriating patient medication or supplies, failing to assess or accurately document the status of a patient, and failing to properly document or perform the disposal of medications. She has now come to an agreement with the Board that will allow her to keep her license. She will get a warning for her conduct and must enroll in the Iowa Practitioner Health Program, which helps healthcare workers with substance abuse issues. In 2009, Kemming’s license was temporarily suspended after she was found to be impaired while on duty.
