Oelwein Woman Admits Arson

An Oelwein woman has pleaded guilty to starting a fire that burned down three homes last summer, according to KCRG. Jeannie Murphy took a plea deal in which she pled guilty to two counts of Second Degree Arson. She was originally charged with two counts of First Degree Arson and one of Second Degree Arson. Murphy lived in one of the homes that was destroyed. Murphy was charged with Attempted Murder in 2023 after allegedly attacking a detention officer in the Fayette County Jail. She later took a plea deal to reduced charge and was sentenced to probation. That same year she ws charged with Domestic Assault after pouring homemade acid on a man. She took a plea deal in that case as well and received a two day jail sentence.
