An Indiana man who came to Iowa to attend the University of Northern Iowa has been sentenced for holding up two hotels and a convenience store with a baseball bat in 2022, accoring to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 27 year old Giovanni Davis went into the Prime Mart on Franklin Street wearing a mask and carrying a bat. He was able to get away with about $100. Two days later he took his bat to the Hilton Garden Inn and the Super 8, both on Nordic Drive. He was able to get $285 from the Hilton. Police found him a short distance away and took him into custody after a short foot chase. Davis told police he was trying to get money to pay for his rent. On Wednesday he pleaded to reduced charges of third degree Burglary and two counts of second degree Robbery and was sentenced to 10 years in prison with a five year minimum before becoming eligible for parole. Prosecutors say he was offered the reduced charges because he was young at the time of his crimes and his otherwise clean criminal record.
