After suffering through many hardships including a 100-year-flood, a recession, and months of being blocked off by construction, the Palace Theater in downtown Waverly finally shut its doors for good on February 19th this year. But this doesn’t have to be end of its story, as the building itself is still a landmark in the community with a rich history.
Economic Development Specialist Connie Tolan says the building is still economically viable:
Gary Nelson, the owner of Phoenix Theaters, has even stated that the Palace Theater was a key selling point to renovating the downtown area in the 90’s. Unfortunately, it is still unclear what is in store the building’s future.
