Parking Ordinance Brought into Question

A Downtown Cedar Falls resident and business owner has successfully fought a parking ticket leading to further discussion regarding the ordinances that govern parking in that area, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Julie Shimek owns Vintage Iron Company. On January 31st she was cited for parking in the Second Street East Lot for more than 48 hours. She fought the citation saying she had a permit that was clearly displayed that allowed her car to be in the municipal lots for a longer amount of time. Shimek was traveling at the time, she argued if that ordinance is enforced in the same way Downtown residents would be unable to go on vacation. Shimek was reimbursed the $160 for the tow. The City Council unanimously agreed with Shimek and vowed to continue to review the situation.
