Photo of Roosevelt Found in Iowa

The Buchanan County Tourism Director has uncovered a 120 year old photo of President Theodore Roosevelt giving a speech in Independence, according to KWWL. The photo shows Roosevelt standing on the back of a train parked at the Independence Railroad Depot with a large crowd surrounding the train in 1903. It was found by Jill Chemic in a pile of photos under some wire baskets. At the time, Chemic was working on an application to register the railroad depot that now houses the tourism office as a historic property. Plans are now to create a museum exhibit to display the photo along with Roosevelt’s speech.
