A protest was carried out in Butler County on Saturday, according to KCRG. The protesters stood in opposition to a proposed carbon sequestration pipeline that would go through the county. Navigator CO2 Ventures, a Texas based company, wants to build a pipeline that would capture carbon given off by ethanol producers, liquefy it, and transfer it to central Illinois. It would be stored there, rather than emitted into the atmosphere. Farmers say it would harm their land and the future of their crop yields. Those farmers fear Navigator could use eminent domain to gain access to the land. Navigator would have to ask the Iowa Utilities Board to do that which, to this point, has not happened.
