A Waterloo man accused in a violent home invasion in Elk Run Heights and a later shooting has taken a plea deal, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 22 year old Dequonterio Galloway-Bass entered an Alford Plea to First Degree Robbery, First Degree Burglary, Conspiracy, Willful Injury Causing Serious Injury, Escape and multiple counts of Felon in Possession of a Firearm, Carrying Weapons, and Trafficking Stolen Weapons. Galloway-Bass and others broke into the Elk Run Heights home on February 23, 2021 as a mother and her children slept. Once inside they threatened the children and forced the mother to open a gun safe and hand over the guns inside. Galloway-Bass was taken into custody two days later but was able to kick open the door of the police car and run away. He stayed on the loose until March 15th when he shot 42 year old Michael Barron several times during an argument.
