The following is the release from the Waverly Police Department about last Wednesday’s assault at W-SR following wrestling practice:
On 11/16/2022 at approximately 1753 hrs. the Waverly Police Department responded to the Waverly-Shell Rock Senior High School in reference to an assault. Upon arrival, Waverly Officers identified the individuals involved, witnesses, and spoke with W-SR School Staff. Upon further investigation, on 11/18/2022, the Waverly Police Department referred a 17-year-old male to Juvenile Court Services for Assault Causing Bodily Injury (Serious Misdemeanor). The Juvenile was booked and released at the Bremer County Jail.
To clarify misinterpretations and rumors – When the Waverly Police Department arrived on the scene, the assault had concluded. The victim was brought to the training room and was being cared for by W-SR staff. During this time, staff did place pads from their defibrillator on the individual only to monitor until Emergency Services arrived. The defibrillator was never needed and was done only as a precaution by W-SR staff.
*An arrest without conviction is not an indication of guilt.
