Two potential logo designs to replace the griffin logo of the Waterloo Police will head to the City Council for a possible decision to adopt one of them, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Both designs feature the head and wings of an eagle-like creature and the term vigilance with the year 1868, signifying the year the department was established. The color schemes are slightly different with one featuring a blue and yellow scheme and the other a black and yellow scheme. The police department plans to survey the officers on the options, with the results to be taken under consideration by the council. The issue of changing the logo has been a controversial one with former and current officers voicing their displeasure over the retirement of the current griffin logo.
