The Popeyes fast food restaurant in Waterloo along with four others are allegedly illegally using the Popeyes name and branding, according to KCRG. The Waterloo restaurant along with ones in Coralville, Cedar Rapids, Des Moines, and Dubuque are all owned by Asif Poonja and Jam Equities. The Popeyes corporate entity has filed a lawsuit alleging that each location violated its franchise agreement by not performing and operating in compliance with Popeyes’ standards. Each location allegedly failed an inspection in August and had their franchise agreements terminated and were supposed to cease using the Popeyes signage, branding, and trade secrets, but have not. The lawsuit is seeking damages and to have each location remove its Popeyes branding and packaging.
