The two finalists to become the very first principal at the brand new Waterloo United High School have been named. Charletta Sudduth is currently the district’s associate director of human resources. She first joined the district in 2006 as a Parents as Teachers coordinator, then became an early childhood consultant and later a prekindergarten teacher. She previously worked as a mental health specialist for Head Start and a social worker for the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services. She holds multiple degrees from UNI including a doctoral degree in curriculum and instruction, a master’s degree in social work, a bachelor’s degree in secondary teaching as well as principal and superintendent certificates. Zach O’Brien has been with the school district since 2008 and is currently the principal at Bunger Middle School. He began his career as an instructional strategist and English teacher at West High before moving into administrative roles. He has a master’s degree in educational administration with a preK-12 principalship and evaluator approval endorsement and a bachelor’s degree in secondary English from UNI. Two public town hall meetings will be held for the community to meet the candidates. One will be held Wednesday at Hoover Middle School and the other will be on Thursday at East High School. Both will run from 6-8pm.
