Prison for Man Who Paralyzed Ex’s Boyfriend

A Waterloo man will go to prison for a decade after paralyzing his ex’s new boyfriend, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 25 year old Michael Heggebo was sentenced to up to 10 years in prison on a charge of willful injury causing serious injury. He went to his ex girlfriend’s home in May of last year where he found 23 year old Derrius Hollis, who had traveled to Iowa after meeting the woman on a dating app. Heggebo threw the first punch and Hollis swung back before Heggebo picked Hollis up and dropped him on his head and repeatedly stomped on his head. Hollis was in a medically induced coma in Waterloo for months after the incident. He had to have part of his skull and brain removed to alleviate pressure and only recently was able to move to a rehabilitation facility in Texas where he requires around the clock care.
