A Waterloo woman has been sentenced to prison time after her 1 year old drank Drano in January, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 24 year old Kayla Tiefel will spend up to five years in prison on charges of Child Endangerment Causing Bodily Injury and Possession of Methamphetamine. She also was sentenced to 10 years behind bars for an unrelated robbery in December. Those sentences will be served consecutively. Court records say the child suffered chemical burns to his chest and esophagus on January 5th. He was flown to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for treatment. Tiefel told police she noticed the injuries to the child as she stepped out of the shower. A search of the home found the bottle of Drano and a bag of meth. They also described the home as “uninhabitable”. The robbery charge stems from an incident on December 9th when Tiefel and several others broke into a home and stole a knife and $15 in cash.
