Prison Time for Man Who Led Police on Chase

A Waterloo man will go to prison for more than a decade after a sawed off shotgun was found in his car after he led police on a high speed chase, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. A State Trooper attempted to pull over a vehicle driven by 40 year old Traymone Phillips on Highway 20 in August of 2020. Phillips initially pulled over but the trooper observed him digging around in a bag. Phillips then sped away. He passed cars on the right, veered into the median and across two lanes of oncoming traffic before going into a field and crashing into a tree. He then fled on foot leaving his female passenger injured in the car. She wound up with a broken arm. Police found a 12 gauge shotgun in the wreckage along with meth and K2 synthetic marijuana.

In November, Phillips’ former girlfriend, Denise O’Brien, was convicted of murder when she set a house on fire that he was in with another woman. The fire killed a nine year old boy and his mother. Phillips and the woman he was with were able to escape through a second floor window.
