Prisoner Dies of COVID-19

A prisoner from Black Hawk County housed at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Coralville has died from COVID-19, according to KWWL. 77 year old Richard Peters died Sunday while in a hospice room at the prison. He had several preexisting medical conditions. Peters was serving a 25 year sentence for multiple convictions of 2nd Degree Sexual Abuse in Black Hawk County. That sentence began in February of 2014. He is the 4th Iowa prison inmate to die of COVID-19. All four have had preexisting conditions. Currently, 74 inmates at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center have tested positive for COVID-19. 132 at the Mount Pleasant Correctional Facility and one inmate at the Newton Correctional Facility have tested positive.
