The former manager of the Cedar Valley SportsPlex has been handed probation for stealing money through fake time cards, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 53 year old Mark Gallagher had asked for a deferred judgment as his lawyer pointed out he had no prior criminal history and was well respected for putting together sports tournaments for children. The judge did not grant that motion however citing the repetitive nature and the betrayal of trust associated with the crime. Instead, Gallagher was given a suspended sentence of two to five years of supervised probation that will leave the felony on Gallagher’s record. Gallagher also underwent mental health treatment as part of a pre-sentence recommendation. He must also repay the money he stole using another employee’s password. Gallagher was also the Columbus Baseball Coach before resigning that position after being charged.
