Red Light Cameras Coming to Waverly

The City of Waverly has announced that Automated Red-Light Cameras will become operational in January. The cameras will be placed at three intersections, 4th Street and West Bremer Avenue, 4th Street SW and Cedar River Parkway, and 4th Street SW at the Walmart and Kwik Star intersection. The cameras will be set up to detect and issue citations to those running red lights. These cameras are not affected by the law that recently rendered speed cameras illegal. The City says that the cameras will be put in place because it is difficult for law enforcement to make traffic stops and for first responders to assist with crashes in those locations. Those caught by the cameras will be issued a $100 fine, which can be contested to the Waverly Police Department who will decide if a violation occurred. Once the cameras go into operation there will be a 30 day warning period. More information can be found on the Waverly Police Department’s website.
