The Iowa Department of Corrections and the Iowa Board of Parole allowed a repeated sex offender from Waterloo to receive work release with parole 17 years early, according to the KCRG Investigative Team. Mario Goodson had a mandatory minimum sentences which, according to Iowa law, would render him ineligible for parole. Goodson was free for two days before the mistake was discovered. Nicholas Crawford, the Communications Director for the Iowa Department of Corrections, says the error occurred after the inmate went through a unique appeal process and his sentence was wrongly calculated.
