Black Hawk County Sheriff Tony Thompson has released a warning about a rise in rural burglaries. Thompson says many of the burglaries have targeted the homes and property of snowbirds, those citizens who often spend winters down south. Thompson is asking public to keep an eye on their neighbors home and to report any suspicious activity. He also says to keep an eye out for cars and people that feel out of place in your community. One final suggestion from Thompson was to purchase a security camera system which can act as a deterrent as well as being very helpful in identifying suspects in the event a crime takes place.
