Rivers in the area have risen after a recent stretch of heavy rainfall. The Shell Rock River at Shell Rock is currently just over 12ft and is in the minor flood stage. At this stage water affects South Prairie Street and seepage may occur in basements close to the river. The river is expected to crest at 12.6ft. The Butler County Conservation Board closed several campgrounds yesterday including Camp Comfort, the back part of Heery Woods, Shell Rock, and Wunsch Memorial Park campgrounds. Those closures were based upon an earlier estimate of a crest over 13ft, however.
The Cedar River at Charles City currently sits at 13.48ft, which is above the minor flood stage threshold of 12ft. At that point barricading of streets begins and the intersection of Riverside and North Illinois Streets may be flooded. The cable pedestrian bridge is also closed.
The Cedar River at Waverly is currently at 7.45ft, well below flood stage, which is 12ft.
The Cedar River is expected to crest in Janesville at 10.4ft, which is below flood stage there.
