The City of Waterloo has been granted a little over $2 million from the state to put in a roundabout at the intersection of Hammond and Ridgeway Avenues, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. The City received $1.3 million in a Carbon Reduction Program grant and $700,000 in an Iowa Clean Air Attainment Program grant. The City found the intersection became congested, which resulted in emissions and traffic back-ups. An average of 17,400 cars go through that intersection every day. The City has applied for a $500,000 safety grant as well but the project will move forward even if they do not receive that funding. The timeline for the roundabout project is unknown at this time but Traffic Operations Director Safiah Elahi says it will be kept on a fast track.
