The Denver and Jesup School Districts have come to an agreement to share a special education director due to cuts to area education agencies, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. The position will be an existing position at Jesup that now will be split 50/50 with Denver. The school districts believe this agreement will allow them to continue to provide high-quality services to special needs students. In March of last year the Iowa legislature redirected 60% of AEA funding for media and educational services directly to school districts, allowing them to purchase services from AEAs or seek alternatives. Additionally, 10% of special education funding was shifted to the districts. Denver Superintendent Brad Laures says while they wish the cuts to AEAs would not have happened, they believe this agreement will help support their kids and teachers.
