A Waterloo man in jail for a 2019 shooting and on drug charges has had a charge added to his record after a shank was found in his cell, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. Black Hawk County Deputies were cleaning out the cell of Ernesto Rodriguez-Avila after he was moved from C-Pod to A-Pod. In the process a shank was found among his belongings. He has been charged with Possession of a Weapon in a Correctional Facility. His bond now stands at $102,000. He was first arrested in 2019 after allegedly firing a shotgun at an occupied vehicle. He was then released from jail pending trial, however he missed appointments with corrections officials who requested an arrest warrant. He was taken into custody during a traffic stop in which a 9mm handgun and a glass pipe with methamphetamine was found.
