The following is a release from Cedar Falls Public Safety:
On March 29th, 2022, at 7:07AM, the Black Hawk County Dispatch Center received a 911 call from a resident of the 4600 block of Gloria Street reporting that their white Toyota SUV had just been stolen from their garage. Officers patrolling the area intercepted the stolen vehicle along with a second vehicle (black Dodge Charger) that had been stolen the previous morning from Neola Street in Cedar Falls. Two separate vehicle pursuits ensued throughout SW Cedar Falls.
The white Toyota eluded officers traveling southbound on Highway 58 near the intersection with Greenhill Road where it struck another vehicle and crashed into the center concrete barrier. The vehicle was disabled and the male driver was taken into custody at 7:16AM.
The black Dodge eluded officers in the general residential area near the University of Northern Iowa. The vehicle was ditched in the 1500 block of Columbia Drive and the driver fled on foot. Numerous officers and investigators searched the general area. The driver of the stolen Dodge was located by University of Northern Iowa Police and apprehended near the intersection of West 31st. Street and Hudson Road at 7:59AM.
Both drivers are in the custody of the Cedar Falls Police Department. Both vehicles have been recovered. There were no injuries. There will be multiple charges filed including burglary, theft, eluding and numerous traffic violations. Cedar Falls Police were assisted by the UNI Police Department and the Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Department.
