North Liberty Police have arrested a man accused of putting skimming devices on ATMs in several cities throughout Iowa, including in Cedar Falls, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 37 year old Vasile Cristei was arrested when he and another person returned to a North Liberty location to collect the data collected by the skimmer placed there. He was identified after an employee at Collins Community Credit Union in Cedar Falls noticed him placing the skimming device there and affixing a small camera to the awning. Other devices were found Des Moines and West Des Moines. Cristei initially gave North Liberty Police Ukrainian documents identifying him as Aleksea Sovaonov, police now believe that was a fake name. Cristei has been charged with Illegal Use of a Scanning Device and Malicious Prosecution. His bond has been set at $15,000.
