The son of former Waterloo mayor Quentin Hart has taken a plea deal after scamming a Marion man out of thousands of dollars, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 18 year old Quenden Hart has pleaded guilty to first degree Theft and Unauthorized Use of a Credit Card in exchange for a charge of second degree Robbery being dropped. Hart faces up to 12 years in prison when he is sentenced at a later date but he plans to ask for a deferred judgment which would remove the case from his record once he completes probation. Hart called a Marion man claiming to be a credit union inspector investigating fraud in December. He asked the man to place his debit card in his mailbox as part of the investigation. Hart then used the card to withdraw money at ATMs. The next day he called the man again and told him to withdraw $10,000 in cash from his account and Hart would come over to photograph the money. When Hart arrived at the man’s home, he grabbed the bag of cash and drove off, dragging the victim behind. Hart was a freshman at Wartburg this year majoring in Business Administration. His dorm was searched as part of law enforcement’s investigation into the case.
