Sports Betting Fraud

A former Cedar Falls man has been sentenced for falsely claiming he did not make sports bets he lost on, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. 24 year old Carter Klatt, now of Urbandale, pleaded to second and third degree Fraudulent Practices, Falsifying Public Documents, and Tampering With Records. Klatt claimed that nearly $4,000 worth of sports bets that did not hit had been made someone who stole his computer and hacked his bank account. After SportsBet USA, Caesar’s, and DraftKings all suspended his accounts he produced fake bank documents and a fake Cedar Falls police report meant to prove his story. Klatt was sentenced to five years of probation. He was also given a deferred judgment, meaning if he completes his probation the charges will be wiped from his record.
