Staff Reductions Likely in District’s Future

On Sunday 182 students graduated from Waverly-Shell Rock. As we’ve previously reported, the Waverly-Shell Rock School District projects that future classes will be larger, peaking at rougly 195 grads in 2032, and then soon thereafter will drop to about 122 graduating in 2036.

The school is already seeing smaller classes in the elementaries. We asked superintendent David Hill if this mean there will need to be staff reductions.

Hill says they hope to do the reductions through not replacing positions lost to attrition and retirement.

He also says that the smaller class sizes is a nation-wide trend that he attributes to people having fewer kids and having children later in life.
