The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department received a report of a vehicle that had struck several fixtures along Highway 3 on Sunday. They tracked the vehicle involved to a location in Maynard and made contact with the owner, 64 year old Jeffrey Walker. Walker brandished a firearm while speaking with deputies and refused to drop the firearm. During an hour long standoff Walker allegedly fired the gun in what deputies describe as an attempt to have deputies fire upon him. The standoff would end peacefully and Walker was taken to the Fayette County Jail. He has been charged with Striking Fixtures Upon a Highway, Operating While Under the Influence, Possession of a Dangerous Weapon While Intoxicated, Reckless Use of a Firearm, Interference With Official Acts and Failure to Maintain Control. The case remains under investigation.
