A standoff in Dunkerton Sunday night ended peacefully. The Black Hawk County Sheriff’s Office was called to a home on Williams Street, near the Dunkerton Library. Inside the home 74 year old James Parizek was armed with a gun and began allegedly making threats to other people, including law enforcement, around 6:45. Deputies were able to evacuate the area and get everyone else out of the home, leaving Parizek alone in the home. A short time after the evacuations a gunshot was heard inside the home but Parizek came out on his own accord after about 5 hours of negotiations. He was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.
