Stolen Vehicle Stopped with Minors Aboard

Last Friday the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office received a tip of a stolen 2000 Ford Taurus being operated by minors out of Cedar Rapids. The vehicle was observed by deputies traveling at a high rate of speed on Highway 18 near Elgin. After a chase the Taurus crashed into a creek. Three occupants fled on foot. One juvenile male was apprehended. The other two were later seen on surveillance video at a home stealing a 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan around 5:00 Saturday morning. The van was later seen in Fredericksburg and it was believed that the pair were trying to get to Waterloo. A Bremer County deputy then observed the van on Highway 63 near Denver and initiated another chase. That chase ended with the van crashing into a ditch southeast of Denver. After a short foot chase both occupants were apprehended. They face charges of Operating Without Owners Consent, 2nd Degree Criminal Mischief, Eluding, and Interference with Official Acts in Fayette County. They face other charges in Bremer County and Cedar Rapids.
