This year, Iowans across the state were able to buy and set off their own fireworks at home during the Fourth of July. If you’re someone that has left over fireworks, you’ll want to make sure you’re storing or disposing them properly.
If you have leftover fireworks from the Fourth the DNR has tips for storing or disposing them properly.
The Iowa Department of Natural Resources encourages people to store unused fireworks in places that are cool and dry such as the garage. To prevent an explosion from happening, the DNR said fireworks shouldn’t be put in the trash without soaking them in a bucket of water and wrapping them in two plastic bags so they don’t dry out.
The DNR also recommends never putting fireworks on top of an electrical appliance like a freezer or refrigerator to prevent the ignition of the fireworks if the appliance were damaged from power surges or severe weather.
