Strike Ends After 35 Days

According to KWWL, UAW members across 12 locals have ratified a new 6-year deal with Deere & Co., ending a 35-day strike.

A spokesperson for John Deere says operations resumed for third shift workers Wednesday night. UAW Local 838 in Waterloo said on Facebook that workers are not required to go into work for third shift unless they want to.

The tally nationally was 61% approval to 39% denial. The contract includes an $8,500 signing bonus; 20% increase in wages over the lifetime of the contract with 10% this year; return of Cost of Living adjustments; three 3% lump sum payments; enhanced options for retirement and enhanced CIPP performance benefits. Healthcare remains the same for the life of the agreement, according to a press release from the union.
