Students Protest Law Regarding Girls Sports

Several dozen Waterloo West students walked out of class Thursday in protest of the new law banning transgender girls and women from competing in athletic events designed for females, according to KWWL. The bill requires student athletes in K-12 and collegiately to participate under the sex assigned to them at birth. Supporters of the bill say that fairness is jeopardized by allowing transgender females to participate with biological females. The students who staged the walk out say it is harmful to young transgender women and deepens discrimination against them. The walk out coincided with International Transgender Visibility Day.
