Sumner Home Invasion Update

More information surrounding a home invasion in Sumner has surfaced. Law enforcement from Bremer and Chickasaw Counties paying a visit to a home in Fredericksburg. The woman who lives in the home is Mindy Jo Riley, who was convicted of stealing from John and Megan Eimers last years. The Eimers own the house where the home invasion took place. In the invasion Steven Anthony of Davenport initially asked to talk to John Eimers. Immediately after the conversation Anthony shot Eimers multiple times at close range with a handgun. Eimers returned fire and killed Anthony. Eimers was transported to the University of Iowa Hospital, where he has since been released. Investigators are searching to find a connection between Riley and Anthony. Anyone with information that may relate to this incident is asked to call the Bremer County Sheriff’s Office.

According to the Bremer County Jail, Riley taken into custody Thursday, to go to jail for her past conviction.

This comes after a large police presence at a home in Fredericksburg Wednesday night, just north of where the home invasion happened.

It is still unknown why police were called to Riley’s home, but according to online court records there was a search warrant out for her Wednesday.

She is currently awaiting trial for an unrelated fraud case out of Chickasaw County.
