A municipal power plant in Bremer County is getting hundreds of thousands of dollars in a federal loan after flooding last summer. In July, storms caused flooding in different areas of eastern Iowa including Sumner, where the Sumner Municipal Light Plant took on a lot of water, cutting off power to the entire town. FEMA has approved a nearly $400,000 Community Disaster Loan to the plant to help with recovery efforts. The president issued a disaster declaration for nine counties after the storms which freed up federal dollars to be used for in those counties.
