The City of Sumner is reminding its citizens to avoid flushing anything down their toilets other than toilet paper and human waste. They reiterate citizens should not flush tampons or tampon applicators, paper towels, feminine hygiene products, and wipes of any kind – even if they say “flushable” on the package, they are not. The City says single ply toilet paper takes an average of four city blocks to dissolve and 2-ply toilet paper rarely dissolves before reaching the sewer plant so those other items will not. That can lead to clogs, backups, and problems with the sewer system and equipment. They say if it is not toilet paper, put it in the trash.
