A Sumner woman was hospitalized after a crash on Friday night. The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office was called to an area of Highway 93 near X Avenue on a report of a single vehicle accident at around 10:30 p.m. They determined that 46 year old Walter Berfield was traveling west on Highway 93 when he swerved to avoid a deer in the roadway and went into the ditch. Berfield’s vehicle struck a driveway embankment causing disabling damage to the vehicle. Berfield’s passenger, 35 year old Brittany Wolff, was injured in the crash and was taken to the Sumner Hospital by private vehicle. Deputies located a controlled substance inside Berfield’s vehicle. The incident remains under investigation at this time and charges are pending.
