Suspect Jumped into River to Flee Police

Cedar Falls Police took a wanted man into custody Monday after they jumped into the river in an attempt to avoid being arrested. Police located 29 year old Trinity Shafer in the area of Island Park around 11:40 Monday morning. When Shafer noticed the police, he took off running before jumping in the river near the boat ramp. Officers would eventually toss a ResQ Disc, which Shafer would grab hold of and be pulled to safety and put under arrest. Shafer was wanted on a warrant for Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon out of Ottumwa and a probation violation out of Jones County. Shafer is a registered sex offender after a conviction of Dissemination or Exhibition of Obscene Material to a Minor in 2019.

On August 19th at approximately 11:40, Cedar Falls officers were checking the area of Island Park for a subject who was wanted by outside Iowa agencies. Upon arrival at the park, the subject was located and then took off running. The suspect then jumped into the river near the boat ramp. Officers deployed a ResQ Disc, and the suspect grabbed ahold after officers gave instructions. The suspect was pulled to shore and placed under arrest.
